Burning last year's grass on the old Bar Bar O

This project worked very well. Most of the old heavy stuff burned, and then a nice shower came along. Bob had to go to the dentist after that, and the office girls were whining about how they could still smell the haystack fire. I'm afraid it was us! :)

Grant died this afternoon

Grant shoeing Sad Sack in 1978
Abie and Grant at Saurkraut Lake in 1994
Grant and Abie in 1996...the year Grant turned 70...
Crossing Sommers' bridge...look way up, and you can see the lead end where we paired and cut out to the mesa, each cow calf pair. "Horsie ears for my wonderful friend Charm!"
Ridin' drag...Charles Price, Albert Sommers, and Chuck Bacheller.
This is probably the worst "photograph" I took today...but it tells the story. Trouble is you can't see roughly half the herd down in the bottom of the draw.

Ride up on the mesa

Someone who shall remain anonymous was whining that I hadn't posted any pictures lately. That person was right. Tried to get this up yesterday, but my internet was so bad, I couldn't get it up. We'll be cowboying for Prices tomorrow. I'll try to remember my camera.

Branding at Michael's

Today was a day I should have had my camera. OK, I did have it at the ranch, in the car. Not good enough? Right.

Anyhow, Bob and I fed cows while Michael's crew gathered and branded. They got the big bunch done about the time we got done. As Bob and I brought the team and wagon in, we met Jennifer, who obviously was upset. She asked us if we could stay and help Vern with a prolapsed heifer. Well, of course. We unharnessed, I got on her horse, Bob walked out, and Vern came all about the same time. I was there to hold the cow incase she didn't cooperate. She couldn't get up, so it was a non issue. Vern did his thing with the expertise we know he can. I was aching to have my camera. Then I rode out and helped (?) there were more cowboys than cows with the heifer bunch...get those corraled, and watched as they branded. I again ached to have my camera. Also to be young again, and on the ground wrestling calves. Then we enjoyed Jennifer's excellent meal. Thank you Jennifer. I have a real hang up about people going to brandings to eat, and don't do anything. I think we sort of slipped into that catagory. Later I drove out to Vern's to get vaccine for our horses. We had a neat visit.
