A little catchup

I flagged for Michael last week when he moved his cows from Cottonwood home. This is the drive coming out on the highway at Cottonwood. Mike Beard is the cowboy you can see.

This morning we went over to Michael's to help with a short small drive from Beck's to his place. I loved his work horses looking at us over the corral fence.

Crossing the little creek out of a spring up the hill. No name.

Saturday Betty and I got a booth at the Big Piney Craft Fair. It was a lot of fun. Betty and Tanners are talking Mesquite rocks...

Civil Air Patrol training day

The Pinedale Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol did some FLIR testing to show our sheriff what it could do. The FLIR is forward looking infra red (camera) that can pick up any heat. We were to have people, a camp fire, a four wheeler running and someone smoking. The smoking thing was the problem, but Alex's daughter brought two cigaretts and smoked them..she about got sick, but she smoked them and the FLIR picked them up.

We drove back to the Half Moon Lake overlook for cell reception to make sure they were still planning the flight despite the weather.

Here we are around the fire..Chelsie was under dressed for the occaision so I gave her my pit coat. That's Katlin, her cousin in the carhart. Bob fanning the fire to get it going.

The ground crew...plus the photographer. About the time they were done, the weather turned off nice.

Halloween

This should be dated October 31st. Cute trick or treaters

I have a picture somewhere of these two eleven years ago. We found the cat on Halloween eve eleven years ago.

Hunting Season

Apparently hunting season is still going on here at the house.

Bob tying the pack on Toots, who turned pack horse for this trip. As Kathy Wipfler said on fb when she recognized Toots packing out, she's an all around gal.

The yearly lineup before they head out. Grandpa Bob, Michael, Palmer and Kirsten. This is her first hunting trip. They got into a lot of snow at Mary's Lake, and only got the big tent put up the first night. Acording to the spot, they are out hunting this morning. The sun is out, and I hope they are all warm somewhere.

A little catch up

We went for a flight up South Cottonwood the other day..and it was ever so smoky. Coming into the airport I got the only decent shot of the New Fork River and smoke out just a little ways.

Jamie laughing at Bob squeezing in his unique experimental. It's a cool plane that has the engine in the back. I have yet to see it in the air. This was at the fly-in last week.

August 21, 2017

Watching the Great American Eclipse with Scott and Sara drinking mimosas. Then pork burgers from their grill.

The photo below is of my grandmother, Nell Allen with my mother Virginia Allen, aka Texas Pape.
My mother was born on this day in 1914. I've always loved this photograph of my grandmother and  my mother.

Moving cows in Prices' sections

Up early to moved cows this morning. We got there at daylight but sat in the truck for half an hour while it rained pretty hard. We were mostly worried about the road getting out being too wet. The cows went easily...Bob counted the right number through the gate, and the road dried enough we had no trouble getting out. He had loaded the four wheeler too, and took salt up to the upper section. We saw a gorgeous bull moose, and a lot of young sage chickens.

Sacred Rim ride

I've hiked in here before, but this is the first time we've ridden there. A year or two ago, we planned to, but the blow down was so bad we couldn't get our horses through. Brian and Krishna hiked there last week when they were here, and reported the trail was good. It was. Wish it had been a clear day without smoke.

I loved this rock..but my photo doesn't show that it's sitting on three little rocks well.

Bob talking about his elk hunting guiding days, and where all they went.

New Window

Krcil is replacing a bedroom window. The ice on the roof last winter broke that bush badly, so I cut it way down. It's grown that much this summer.

Brian, Krishna, and Hunter were here for a few days. Hunter loves the Cat, and he joined them seeking shade one day.

Bob's antelope

There's a story here. This is the same antelope, which Bob shot the fall of 1963 on our old ranch on Willow Creek. I think it missed being a record by one point.
Bob shot this with Amie's rifle, and Sid's license at 250 yards. He hit it in the eye. Sid and Amie were out of meat, but Sid was in failing health and didn't want to go hunting. He asked Bob to get an antelope for him.
Over the years the cape has faded, and hair has been falling out. Last fall, Scott Steere agreed to hunt for one with a neat cape to recape this. When his taxidermist was taking the old cape off he discovered the skull was shattered. Bob never knew that. Anyhow, his antelope is again beautiful.

A day on the lake

Judith and Chrome

I actually wet a line...no bites

Judith had a lunch for us all...
The night before we enjoyed a bbq at the lake. Cheeney's joined us..and it was fun. The rain quit, and we did eat outside..but Judith did all the cooking inside.

Riding Price's sections

Up at five...left here 6:10...an hour and a half getting there. Home about noon.
We found..one cow out..got her back in. One gate open that shouldn't have been, eight calves out, got them back in. Found a lame calf..foot rot. Found two elk horns..found a dead cow at the reservoir. Looks like a lightening kill. Will not treat you to pictures of the dead cow. Gorgeous flowers. Lots of baby sage chickens and baby antelope.

An old aspen cabin.

Bob picking up my first elk horn for me. :)
