Ty and Suzy Geisemann

Suzy is the daughter of my old dear friends, Ruthie and Bill Smeltzer, who I knew at the Voyager. They are amazing people..traveling through our country for the first time. Ty did a three day back packing trip in the Winds...our small contribution to that was our Spot. He wasn't enamored having to carry those extra ounces, but he did it for Suzy.  He cooked us this beautiful dinner last night. Suzy connected with a friend in Florida, and I got to face time with Ruthie. We both had tears, but we both laughed too. It brought back so many neat memories.

A few days before, we took them up to Kendall Valley for lunch, and then a drive up the Union Pass road.

More pictures from Dickinson Park

I tried to get some pictures that showed the trails. Didn't succeed.

Dinner on the grill

Jane and Mel did the lions share of the cooking..and I enjoyed every bite.

The wall tent before the outside fly was put up. Huge success.

Packtrip at Dickinson Park

We loaded gear and horses Sunday August 14th and headed to Lander. We agreed to meet at the truckstop just out of town. Well, that truckstop is now a restaurant, so we met there and had awesome burgers. Browns, Mark, Mel and Mallory met us there too. We all then headed for Fort Washaki where we headed out and up the switchbacks to Dickinson Park at 9400 feet. The road up there is across a lot of reservation, and normally there's a tresspass fee of $85.00, aka a reservation fishing licence, which is waived this year. That little fact is why this place was picked. It was a two and a half hour trip up those switchbacks. We ruined a tire on the trailer about two thirds of the way up, so while Bob was changing that, I took the horses to the top. Jane and Scott, who were traveling ahead of us, saw what was going on. They beat it to the camp site, unhooked and came down to assist. Bob pretty much had it handled, but did notice it was easier pulling without me and the horses.

The first day we rode into Smith Lake. The fishing was pretty good...the scenery was awesome. The trail was rough and steep, but our horses were all up for the task.

The second day we rode town to the Popo Agie river. The guys and Jane fished again. In fact we enjoyed fresh fish every night. I loved that. I brought my fishing gear, Scott hauled it all over the place, and I never wet a line.

These little portable chairs were awesome. Steeres brought them for us. I might mention here, we were treated like royalty. Bob mentioned on the way out, it was the first time anyone ever worried about him. He always took care of others in the mountains.

Mel took this picture of us horseback. Left to right, Mark Brown, Matt Brown, his girl friend Kate, Mallory Brown, Violace, Scott Steere, Johnny Laybourn, Jane Steere, Gina and Bob.
