Trip to Driggs and Victor for Tanner and Libby's wedding

We drove to Driggs and went to the Warbirds Cafe for lunch. Best sandwich I've ever had, bar none. The poboy made with shrimp.

Then we went through Dr. Sugden's little air museum, which is very impressive.

Mayleen and Gene at the wedding

We had quite a rain. I reserected my Nashville umbrella. It was a nice day and wedding. We spent the night and came home today, (Sunday). Lots of smoke in the canyon both days.

Fire and Smoke

I never like the forest fires..but I do enjoy the sunsets the smoke helps create.

On the Cliff Creek fire, ie Bondurant, they brought in the super scoopers, planes made in Canada, based on Boise...however the pilot said these had never been to Boise, and are sent all over the country to help put down fires and save structers. They fly to a water source...Fremont Lake in our case and scoop up 1600 hundred gallons in twelve seconds...fly back to the fire and dump it in strategic places. Their turn around time was about twenty minutes.

This one of the inside didn't exactly get anything.

Dinner at Fremont Lake

Jerry and Judith arrived yesterday. They got the end spot at the lake, which was perfect.

Looking over the lake as we were eating was such a treat.

Love these shots.

I brought some pork chops which Jerry grilled..Judith did two salads and asparagas. It was great.

Love the coctail hour!!!

Allan Reed

Allan died yesterday morning.
He and Faith have been friends since the 1960's. But my favorite stories of him was when he'd fly his little plane and land in our meadow and spend and hour or so having coffee and whatever goodies I had around. He even took the girls to church one Sunday morning. Rest in peace old friend.

Misc

After visiting the Strongs last week, I dug through hundreds of pictures to find this one for them. It is, left to right, George Pape, Larkin Strong, Texas Pape, Beeman Strong, Louise Strong, Beeman Strong and Sally Connally. For those of you who look through this and don't know, Texas and George are my parents, and Sally is my aunt, Texas' sister. Louise is Aunt Sally's daughter. My dad always disliked this photo because...get this...his mouth was open. Too funny.

I think I snagged this from Jane Pape. It's Norm and Barb sharing a marguerita. Love it.

The night of the fourth...music in the park. I had just gotten Ellen a hamburger..she hadn't liked the hot dog Randy got her. What was so funny...she'd told him she wanted a hot dog. That's Molly Mackey sitting next to her, with her husband...can't remember his name.

Moving Michael's cattle

This is after the gather, which was a cuss with Albert Sommers, Palmer and his friend Calabl. Kirsten was on this trip too...did awesome, but the llooonnnngggg day did her in. She didn't show up for the easy day this morning. We were only horseback for four hours. And it was easy.

Early morning with Bobby Gillbank, and Cole and Sherri Butner.

Yesterday we gathered Michael's cattle in the school section to take north to the Kanski fields. The gather was miserable.  Then this shot was taken after a major run-back. It was brutal.

Hours later about the time we were heading downhill toward the Industrial site, they began to string out and move well.

Toots wouldn't drink out of the tire tanks, but Chaco was happy to have a drink. Didn't look scary to him. Eventually she did drink...but didn't get her fill. And Chaco demonstrated over and over again that it was a piece of cake.

Bull Day

Michael picked us up about seven and we drove up to the Bentonite Pile. We rode to the cattleguard on top and waited for bulls.  Phil McGinnis met us, and soon the trucks, trailers and bulls arrived. It was absolutely the quietest bull drive ever. In an hour we had them where they were going. My mare didn't even get sweated up.  We rode back to the Bentonite Pile in time to meet the 2nd loads being hauled up. We helped Jillian get them through the red gate..where they pretty much scattered on their own. We drove to Kendall Lodge where Bob treated Michael and me to hamburgers.  Nice day.

Cousin Fix

Yesterday I drove to Moran, at the Heart 6 Ranch where the Strongs are staying for a couple of days. I didn't get too long a visit with the kids before they took off on a float trip. Turned out they had me scheduled to go too..however I had to be back in Pinedale for David's studio reception. Louise and Beeman and I had a several hour visit..they treated me to a fried chicken lunch and I drove home. It was a delightful day for me. I didn't get to know the kids anywhere near well enough..but hopefully that'll happen again.
