Yesterday

We took the plane out for a neat morning flight.  Boy..most of the snow is gone.  Only some left in the peakes.

I took Ellen to lunch at the Pointe...Bob didn't go because they had quiche.

We drove up to the old ranch and Bob changed the water on the pasture.  This goose and two ducks were enjoying the water and feed.  They scurried home when we came along.

Then we went up to the rodeo grounds and watched the Diamond Z hitch practice.  Apparently the night before the performance hadn't been exactly stellar..

Chris treated me with a ride and even driving the team. He appologized for having unhitched the front two first.  They are neat people..and gorgeous horses.

Sara came over to the practice arena to run Lip Gloss, where she did really well.

The Diamond Z team with the Saunder's family aboard.  Bill and Martha are this year's grand marshals.  Congrats to them.  Neat people.

A day ride up Willow Creek

We had our picnic lunch up on Flat Top....the burn has completely change the scenery.

The flowers are phenominal.  This is taken from my seat on a burned log.  Tall larkspur in the front, then a field of ccinquefoil, lupin, and wild geraniums.

Looking at our old bridge..which is there, but non functional.

As we were riding toward the rangerstation, I turned and took this shot.  Except for the missing buildings, this country is vertually the same.

A couple pix from Jane's visit

Out hunting rocks

Jane took several of these.

We were treated to quite a rainbow.

A shot of the horses waiting to be turned on to the grass in the back yard.

Bull Day

Unloading bulls on the river.

Turning the bulls up the hill.

The bulls heading out.  Love Toot's shadow.

Palmer and Michael and Bob

Travis, Michael, Palmer, and Jamie..Travis treated us to camp coffee and fresh bread.  His wife has started a bakery in Dubois.

Showing Michael and Palmer the bear tree in Kiya Park.  Rita and Jamie were there too.

View of the hats in the front seat heading down the mountain.
It was a neat day.  The bulls moved easily.  Then we rode into camp..mostly to show Palmer where Bob had spent so many years.  We were there an hour or so, visiting and enjoying coffee.  We stopped at the Kendall Lodge and Michael treated us all to hamburgers.

Last Couple of Days

Jane came Friday evening. After dinner, Jane and I played crib.  Just for the record :), I won two out of three games!  Yeah for me!  Doesn't happen much!  Bob rode Saturday, but Jane and I went to the Big Piney airport for breakfast.  When Bob left about a quarter after four a.m., he said, "Now don't take the plane to the fly-in!"  Yeah right.  The CAP plane from Jackson was there, and Alex gave us a demo of the infra red camera.

We spent the better part of the day celebrating Cliff Brewer's life.  Many neat people were at that event.
In the evening, Betty came over and the girls played crib.  It was a joy being with them.

Sunday morning, Bob rode.  Jane and I took the rhino out and did some rock hunting and took a little time out for a photo shoot.  We definately had the wrong camera.  She has a new state of the art one, but we had my phone.  I did think this pear cactus turned out beautiful.  Enlarge it to get the full affect.

The mountains were so gorgeous from where we were, we did these shots.  The mountains were far more beautiful in real life then in these shots.  But we had great fun.  We had lunch at the Stockman's before Jane left for Laramie.  Thanx Jane...I had planned for us to buy your lunch!

Into the Pastures today.

This photo is actually yesterday.  Loved the reflections in a puddle.  There are a lot of puddles.

We did a gather south of Tosi this morning, and it was good and light when we crossed the bridge.

Hours later we got into the pastures.  This is the tail end crossing one pasture to get to the second one.

And this is where we left them.  We turned in roughly 1000 head.  Then is was a long ride of about seven and a half miles down hill to the trailers.  I'm sort of dead meat this afternoon.  Tomorrow we'll get behind Coke's bunch and probably take them somewhere past Tosi.  Their bunch is a long ways back of ours.  Which means they can keep the trailers sort of caught up.  Home around one p.m.

Easy ride this morning...

Crossing the Boulder Creek bridge

They go through a bunch of quakies that are a cuss because they're so close together.  Today's bunch moved so easily.  There was no fighting the trees.  We took them from past the counting gate where they'd been left yesterday to the end of the oil.  We were home by 9:30 a.m.  It was a gorgeous morning to be out moving cattle.

Barlow Hill to the New Fork Underpass

It was an easy gather this morning.

The ponds around Marsh Creek...

Through the underpass..then up about a mile onto the creek.

Then we loaded up to head back to the cutting grounds..and had a flat tire.  Kent has had a bunch of flats lately.

Today we got everything to the cutting grounds.

Bob mounting up just as it was turning light at a boat access on the Green.

Catching up to a few.

After the cattle drive today, we drove home, unloaded horses..cleaned up "somewhat" and went to the dedication of the Green River Drift as a National Historical Sight.  It was amazing how many people turned up.  The bbq was amazing.  As were the people.  Above is Harry Steele.

This is Verna Ruth Steele West.  She's Harry's cousin, an old friend of mine and a neat lady.  She also created a monster by turning me onto genealogy decades ago.
