We went to school there...

Jane Lozier, Susan Pape and myself in the cabin where we went to school on the Box R.
This shows a little of the outside of the cabin...

Mom / daughter dinner at Lakeside..and news flash!

Betty came after me last night and we had such a nice evening at Lakeside.  Donna and Cristy brought their moms too...and it seemed really special.  The scallops were out of this world..as was the view!  Thanx so much Betty!  We then finished off the evening at the rodeo.  Rode home with Wendy Noble...as she drives right by here.
Today we're going to the Box R for a memorial for Chuck Stegman.  Irv's been so sick, so hope he's feeling better.
I had my camera with me the last couple of days...but didn't wind up taking pictures.

Oh...and news flash....Brent got a hole in one yesterday.  Congratulations Brent!  That's way cool!

Mud Lake...

Mud Lake is up above the Red Gate...and that is about a mile below the Bend Cabin. This photo was taken as we were sitting around mothering up stuff. We'll ride tomorrow...and then that'll be it for taking cattle up the Green.

Rode Snip today!

Bob and I met Charles after four this morning...We started our drive about Lime Creek. It started to rain, I donned my rain coat...actually kept it on all morning. The dust didn't get washed off. You'll notice here, Toots got a day off. No bears today...or snakes. Got a lost calf mothered.
On a sad note, Michael, Jennifer and the kids were gathering in Mt. Airie alotment, and Kirstie's horse fell with her. She has an injured ankle and a severe concussion. She's not allowed to ride or do anything much for three months. I expect after we're done riding for Charles, we'll ride for Michael now.

More riding up the Green

The Rock. People driving up the Green to the Bend measure the water in the Green River by how much this rock is sticking out of the water....it's under water, but causing quite a ripple. Charles says there's less water than yesterday.

After putting three hundred and eighty four, the number needed to finish filling the pastures into the south east pasture, we sat and gabbled a while.  Left to right, Kent Price, Brian Esterholt, Charles Price, Mike Beard, Bobby Gilbank and his friend Paula.

Was surprised this morning at four when Brian Esterhold picked me up, that he had his mother Jeanene with him. We had a neat visit for sure. I'm hoping maybe she'll go tomorrow...but that's a big IF.
Oh, also, I saw a grizzly this morning as it was turning light. He came up from the river and crossed in front of the pickup at Mosquito Gardens...a mile or so south of the Bentonite Pile. I understand there have been several kills already, and one trapping. Summer has started on the Upper Green.  We saw a little baby antelope with a broken leg that could run like heck.  I'm guessing he'll make it.  Also saw a moose up there and a water snake.
Later in the day I took Bob's truck and trailer down to Jerry's and got Chaco and Snip.  We'll ride them tomorrow.
Jeanene just called, and after some discussion, she decided not to go tomorrow.  She wants to, and we want her too, but she has obligations at home.  We'll do it another time.  While I had her on the phone, I asked her how to spell her name...so I could put it here.

Last couple days riding

I haven't really taken any good pictures riding the last couple days. Thursty cows. The middle one is leaving the tail end on the Mickey Adam's dougway hill.

Today we got by the red doug way...this is looking back. It was cool enough we had our coats on the entire time. That translates...no bugs. The buckskin mare lost a shoe...(we paid to have our horses shod this year), so I've giving Toots the day off tomorrow. Will ride Saturday going into the pastures (where Bob and I used to summer).

Couple more pix ferom yesterday...

Some of the sagebrush patches are huge....

Mad is riding Nikki Marincic's old horse....Tom C. behind her...as the cows file down to the cutting grounds.
I'll be out there again tomorrow...then working on Thurs....don't know from then on.
This is actually from the day before...up on the Mesa...added it for Betty...long line of cattle....those drives are amazing!

Thousands of cattle winding up at the cutting grounds...Cora Y

Tanner Butner, far left, Mad Murdock, Tom Colerick, Bob! We'd actually come back from the lead end, kicking them over the Cora Hill, and met the tail end arriving here.

Mesa Cow Camp to Hennick Draw

Starting the gather at the old cow camp on a gorgeous morning...about five a.m.

Many hours later, breaking over the rim with the drag...if you double click on this photo you will see cattle miles down the draw. Bob and Chaco coming up the line...

Parts of the trail are an obstacle course.

Holding the drag and trying to get stuff mothered up at the bottom of Hennick Draw.

Charles and Kent looking for a calf to go with the lame cow we corralled miles back. The weather has been perfect cattle driving weather/riding weather. Not hot...not cold...not windy. I need to knock on wood. My plan was to do this four days. I'm thinking I may extend this some. We'll see if Prices want me to go on up country. I'm also thinking...maybe when they get further up, I'll slip in for a couple days again!  Had a nice visit with Rita Dunham, and a good visit with Phil Selby.  Clayton gets into the Craig center tomorrow.  They have great faith he'll come a long way.  He has a bull riding friend who was paralyzed from the neck down, and now four years later he's walking with a cane.  Clayton has the use of his arms.

This and that...

Toots wanted in...The Cat wanted out....The Cat got out....

A baby porcupine in Albert's lane. I couldn't get him to turn around after I got my camera out. He is cute. He's smaller than he looks here. You could easily hold him in two cupped hands.

After clearing the Soap Hole...that was about a six hour job...then cutting and pairing, we took Maggie Miller down to get a bull for some heifers. It was fun to ride with Maggie.

Today...the start of clearing the Mesa. Bob and I were at the far south end of the Mesa with Kent Price.

Hours later at the Mesa Camp/aka the Middle Mesa Well...we were headed home. This is Albert, Charles, Zac and Jamie.
