Busy week

We met Prices in the dark and drove up to their sections on South Cottonwood. We wound up waiting a couple hours for the road to dry some..then rode a couple of miles to get there..then another mile or so to find the cattle and get the gather started. It was gorgeous up there.

I told Kent I was going to mark a future Christmas tree, but that didn't happen. Gorgeous trees there.

These were the ones Bob and I got on our side of the creek.  Kent and Michael got about an equal amount. We got them corraled, and headed out to the trailers. Bob and I hauled their horses back to the ranch, while they went up and loaded cattle and hauled them out. Kent treated us to lunch at the Junction. Met Fred Pape there, who stopped for a lunch after his pt.

I had just played pinochle at Barb's the night before. It was a fun night...and I won high. Pam Kirkpatrick stopped and picked me up on their way out. It's a neat group that plays monthly.
Wednesday we went to Idaho Falls in pouring rain. A little snow on the rim. My eye appointment went well. Shopping didn't. Couldn't find anything we wanted.
Thursday was bridge in Big Piney. Another neat day. Yesterday I helped Bob collect his hunting stuff. Michael and Palmer stopped by and picked it all up to organize. They head out Monday.

Brian and Hunter were here for most of the week. We got him in the plane for a nice ride, and on Toots for a while. I'm afraid these old fogies are boring for a little kid however. Did teach him Yatzee.

Driving the heifers home

We were horseback at daylight. The gather was a cuss...joke here..they were waiting at the gate.

They are heading for the underpass at the cutting grounds.

Palmer and Caleb..note Palmer's chaps he made. ie fringe is special. It has blue behind.

Heading off the Mesa hill five hours later to the north meadow. It was an easy drive.

This photo doesn't show the shot at all. Michael and Palmer riding down with the cattle. Buffalo in the background.
Later we went to the Sommer's Homestead Museum for their annual homecooked dinner. Saw a lot of people.

Fly In at PNA

Brad Bousman with one of his model airplanes.

Bob and Wes Allen checking out an old plane in one of the hangers.

The Fly In at PNA Saturday morning. We had a great turnout, all enjoying the huge breakfast, planes, friends, and several fly-overs by the Vought F4U Corsair and the Douglas A-4 Skyhawk from the Warbirds museum in Driggs Idaho. We saw those planes when we were in Driggs earlier this month.

This photo in case you can't tell is of the reflection of Bob and me in the nose of this plane. It was one that flew over.

We got to help Carrie and Bill Budd celebrate their 61st anniversary at the Den in Daniel. It was such a nice evening with them. Helena Linn and Bill's sister Sally are across from us. Mike and Kathy Pompey were on our side of the table. There were many Cub Feltner stories told..and I called him when we got home. It was good to talk to him.

Ty and Suzy Geisemann

Suzy is the daughter of my old dear friends, Ruthie and Bill Smeltzer, who I knew at the Voyager. They are amazing people..traveling through our country for the first time. Ty did a three day back packing trip in the Winds...our small contribution to that was our Spot. He wasn't enamored having to carry those extra ounces, but he did it for Suzy.  He cooked us this beautiful dinner last night. Suzy connected with a friend in Florida, and I got to face time with Ruthie. We both had tears, but we both laughed too. It brought back so many neat memories.

A few days before, we took them up to Kendall Valley for lunch, and then a drive up the Union Pass road.

I tried to get some pictures that showed the trails. Didn't succeed.

Dinner on the grill

Jane and Mel did the lions share of the cooking..and I enjoyed every bite.

The wall tent before the outside fly was put up. Huge success.

Packtrip at Dickinson Park

We loaded gear and horses Sunday August 14th and headed to Lander. We agreed to meet at the truckstop just out of town. Well, that truckstop is now a restaurant, so we met there and had awesome burgers. Browns, Mark, Mel and Mallory met us there too. We all then headed for Fort Washaki where we headed out and up the switchbacks to Dickinson Park at 9400 feet. The road up there is across a lot of reservation, and normally there's a tresspass fee of $85.00, aka a reservation fishing licence, which is waived this year. That little fact is why this place was picked. It was a two and a half hour trip up those switchbacks. We ruined a tire on the trailer about two thirds of the way up, so while Bob was changing that, I took the horses to the top. Jane and Scott, who were traveling ahead of us, saw what was going on. They beat it to the camp site, unhooked and came down to assist. Bob pretty much had it handled, but did notice it was easier pulling without me and the horses.

The first day we rode into Smith Lake. The fishing was pretty good...the scenery was awesome. The trail was rough and steep, but our horses were all up for the task.

The second day we rode town to the Popo Agie river. The guys and Jane fished again. In fact we enjoyed fresh fish every night. I loved that. I brought my fishing gear, Scott hauled it all over the place, and I never wet a line.

These little portable chairs were awesome. Steeres brought them for us. I might mention here, we were treated like royalty. Bob mentioned on the way out, it was the first time anyone ever worried about him. He always took care of others in the mountains.

Mel took this picture of us horseback. Left to right, Mark Brown, Matt Brown, his girl friend Kate, Mallory Brown, Violace, Scott Steere, Johnny Laybourn, Jane Steere, Gina and Bob.
