Friday Saturday Sunday Monday

Our back yard just a few minutes ago.

Sunday afternoon we drove up to the lake to check the dam.  Then we drove up to the campgrounds which are looking better but not open.  Then we drove up Skyline drive till here.  Then we drove into Half Moon Lake.  It was a neat drive.

Saturday afternoon, after Harry Steele's service I went up to Boulder Lake with the kids.  Jane and her dogs had a lot of un in the lake.

Oscar ventured out on this rock.  He had to swim to get there but was afraid to get off.  Jane waded out to rescue him.

Brent drove up on this on the way to Stokes Crossing.

Betty and Brent coming back across the crossing.

Jane drove up Friday afternoon.  We went over to Cheeney's for dinner. Two out of three of my girls together isn't bad.  It was a neat weekend.

Trip to Jackson

I went to Jackson yesterday for several things.  Had a mamo, and I was meeting Ruth Noble who was flying in from Washington.  Having some time to kill, I stopped at the visitor's center.  Love this display.  But they have some awesome art too.

In the airport, I came across this buffalo robe that I hadn't noticed before.  It is gorgeous. After Ruth got there, we loaded her luggage and headed to Wilson for lunch at Nora's.  As always, it was great.

On the way home I asked her if she was up for a detour. Graceously she said yes.  Side note, she'd boarded her first plane at six in the morning, Washington time.  But she said she was up for it. So I took her around by the Will Pape place and showed her the ranch where my dad was born. The old home that he was born in is falling down, but this is what is left. She said she'd never been on that road before. I love the drive.

Sara's new colt

As Mary Steere said, my new great grand colt!  He's big stuff.

On another note, I've lost two good friends. I don't have any good pictures of them on my computer, but if I come up with any, I'll edit this post and add them.  Ross Calvert and Duene Raper. Ross was about to be 93 or 94...I'm not sure which.  He was an old time cowboy/rancher/brand inspecter who knew my dad in his rodeoing days.  He had a good story about the two of them that I don't remember well enough to actually write it down.  Duene has been a friend since she came here and started teaching.  She was one of Nancy's first teachers..and one of her best teachers.  I'll miss them both a lot.

Flight up the Green

I have the coolest app on my phone.  It's Back Country Navigator.  It's designed for hiking and tracking your trail...I suppose so you can follow it back.  I use it in the Rhino, horseback, and in the plane, just to look at the map when I get home. The hiking I do..it's pretty easy to find my way home!

These elk were trailing down into Welborn's meadow.

New Fork Lake.

Artists' Guild and The Welcome Home Veterans ceremony

Sandy Brewer and Charm McLellan hosted our meeting in Sandy's home today.  It was a great time.

Such a comfortable home..gorgeous view. The writing exercise was to say five things no one knew about ourselves.  It was really interesting.

Ellen Reed telling our governor she knew his mother.

Bob visiting with Maj. Gen. Luke Reiner and about to visit with Matt Mead.

Harry Steele...and flight

This is Harry Steele and Betty taken Dec 8, 1963.  I always liked this picture of Harry. He was a good friend...and we'll sure miss him.  RIP  Harry!

After choring for Scott and Sara, we took a flight to Rock Springs.  Bob wanted to just do a cross country flight..and that's exactly what it was.  This is some of the sand from the Kill Pecker Sand dunes, and the Boar's Tusk.

This is the FBO at the Sweetwater County Rocks Springs airport. The guy there told us the year it was built, and I can't remember.  The hanger was built down where the Sweetwater County fair grounds are now, and was moved to this location when they built the airiport here.  He said they have a picture of Amelia Earhart standing in it.  We didn't get to see that.  It's an old building with a lot of history.

Old Crow Medicine Show
My phone pictures just didn't do this show any justice at all.  It recorded the event.  Period.  My pictures of Holly Williams so didn't turn out..but she was good. She is Hank William's granddaughter. It was so awesome...and we had such wonderful seats..right in the center front.

De-icing our plane in Denver

Flying with Bob yesterday...Great day to be flying!
These pictures are for Duene..hope you do check my blog once in a while.  I haven't been blogging enought to keep your interest up, I'm sure...but Duene, these two are for you!

Trip to Nashville

Well, Nashville greeted us with a ten year ice storm, Pandora.  The walks were treacherous. These two photos were taken outside the Museum of Country Music.

Betty and Nancy tried on some cute hats.

The weather was bad enough and the streets were so icy and dangerous the shuttles all shut down.  As a matter of fact, Nashville shut down Friday night.  No one could get to work..power outages around.  We were fortunate our hotel didn't lose power, and had a good restaurant.

Inside the golf cart...the exhaust was getting to Jane in the back.

Printers Alley was very close to our hotel, and we could walk to a Blues place for awesome music and drinks.  There were kids who belonged to the workers there who were sledding on this little hill and thought it was heaven just for them.

The girls got us all umbrellas...which were a god-send.

Sunday morning, the ice was mostly gone...so were the people...we were walking on Broadway and it was enjoyable.  A few shops were open, and a few bars.

It truly was an epic trip.  The weather there was a bummer but we had such a great time nonetheless. We walked in the rain - ice - snow--bought the umbrellas - listened to all kinds of music - met interesting people, and most importantly..had such a great time just being together.  The Grand Ole Opry was an event.  Awesome beyond words.  I'll do a little on that in a future post.
When we got home last night around midnight, it was about -12.  This morning it was -22...here.  It was colder at Betty and Brent's.
