Cowboying with Michael

We spent the better part of yesterday cowboying with Michael. We brought the bulls in for their red water vaccination. The gather was interesting at best. There was a several mile scatter on them, in willows. They fought all the way in and out. We had to keep some separated in different corrals during the vaccination process just to keep things moving. Then we moved the cows from the late branding out onto the Mesa. The above photo is Bob, Michael and Palmer. The day started off nice, but ended in a slow drizzle.
The very tail end of the bunch getting to the reservoir.

On another note, our cat is VERY sick. If he makes it, it'll surprise us and Vern Aultman. He was sick yesterday morning, and I just sort of let him be. After our very late dinner last night, Bob said, "This cat is going to die." I decided to call Vern, albeit was a very late hour. We took him over there. He probably has been poisoned...we know not with what. Bob wonders about the oil they just put on our road the day before. Prestone? Something someone threw out? Who knows. Anyhow, Vern gave him two antibiotic shots, as he has a very high fever, an oral antibiotic which we have to continue, and three very large sub q shots of glucose water to hydrate him. When we got home we had orders to give him pepto bismol, which didn't go well. As we left, Vern said "I'm very worried about your cat!"

Late Spring Branding at Michael's

This is the last branding of the year. Michael's late calves. It's also the most fun. The kids get to rope! Kids being a loose term as far as Cole and Sherry's boys are concerned. They're pros. Palmer is getting there. Here Michael heads out with Palmer and Kirsten to bring the cows in. Michael is showing Palmer how to take up his slack before bringing the calf to the fire.
Ok, Grandpa, I'm a pro now!!!
Cole and a Box R guest wrestle this calf while Sherry does the branding.Palmer has another one!
Nothing in particular, just a shot of the commotion. Ok..the kids rope..and the old grandma gets to wrestle the last calf! Gotta love it!

Not much here.

We've had some rain and then warm sunny days. Bob's busy on the ditch and "we" haven't done anything interesting. Maybe some neat photos tomorrow.

Yahooooooo..Nanc doesn't have cancer!!!

News from Nanc! The Cheyenne lab sent her pathology reports to SLC for review and the docs down there could not see any signs of cancer. So they contacted the pathologist in Cheyenne and he re-reviewed the findings and agreed with SLC docs. She is cancer free!!!! YEH!!! She still has to have the surgery....the lumps removed, but no further treatment. All of our prayers have been answered. These prayers do work! I'm sooo releaved tonight!

Happy 89th b.d. Ruth

Ruth is talking to Audrey here. I did her hair during that conversation, which I'm sure didn't help with the quality of visit Audrey had. Sorry Audrey. The gals had Ruth dressed up and makeup on. I brought the lipsitck, and more makeup that we wound up not using. But it's there for future use. I like this of Gary and Ruth. Sally, your plant is the one in the background behind Gary with the balloons.
I wish this was cuter of Ruth, but it shows what an elegant way Leslie had the table set. She brought silver, crystal, and china from the ranch. This event was held in her father-in-law's appartment. He's away on a trip.
Love this of Bette and Leslie. Isn't it cute of them both? The table cloth was made long ago by someone in the Hagenstein family.

Horses to pasture and Mixed Media

Toots and Nube were so glad to be out to pasture. We hauled them out there...left them in the trailer while we went around the fence stapling wires and repairing broken wires. There is a corner post that needs replaced, but for now it's holding. Our mixed media art group met at Rendezvous Point. Below is Ruth Rawhauzer. She gave a drawing lesson...and served as the model. I should have been taking pictures rather than drawing at that point.
Below are Charm McLellan, Meleita Snow, Judi Myers and Pam Peck hard at work.
Kay Meeks and Sandy Brewer are drawing on this sind of the table!
Later in the day we had the business meeting of the year for Artist Guild. We accomplished a lot. I hope everyone who wasn't there will be happy with what we did.

Spring in Wyoming

The moisture is great...but it could warm up some! Jane came for their annual camping/rafting trip on the Snake. The weather is going to be brutal for that outing. They and friends have done this for many years. Hope they have dry firewood. Anyhow, the girls and I had a neat lunch at Cafe on Pine and got in lots of visiting.
Then Jane headed to meet her group, and Betty, Delsa and I went to Jackson to view a photography exibit that was being shown at the National Wildlife Museum there. The photos were good and fairly well represented except we thought there should have been some ranching ones. These were done by national known photographers who did a whirlwind three day tour of Sublette County. We'd heard it was not be be biased...just to show the county as it is. And actually you might say the photos did that. But the "talk" that was given was very environmentaly biased. Very. Not many Sublette County people were there.
This bronz bull was pretty impressive against the stormy sky.

Out on the trail

After lunch, we loaded the horses and drove up the Soda Lake Road. Bob wanted to find the way into one of Keith Anderson's old camps....Camp Wilderness, that is essentially near Box Bay on Fremont Lake. Keith called it Moose Bay. It was Nube's first trail ride, and she didn't see a lot of sense in trails....but she'll catch on. There was still some ice in the bay itself. This photo is of your tax dollars at work. The forest service has been cutting down trees and laying them across old trails. This wasn't nearly as bad as some on the upper Green that we came upon last summer.
Yours truly on Toots.
Driving home the Game and Fish work horses they use for the elk feedgrounds were right on the road. Our old team, Wes and Amos were glad to see us. They came charging over when we called. The rest of the horses ignored us. It was fun.

This is a view of Fremont Peak that I've always loved. That's the Soda Lake hay shed for the elk feedground in the foreground.

The Lee Ditch and vaccinating heifers and Barbeque at Brian's

Looking up Pine Creek from the headgate of the Lee Ditch. Bob's ditch riding for Hagensteins. I'll post more photos of this when the willows green up and high water hits. Then we went to Michael's to vaccinate heifers and move them to the lower field. We also moved another small bunch of two and three years olds to join the "big bunch" to be put on the mesa the next day. The grass isn't good out there...but they'll live there until the first of July.
There are two things I should have had my camera for that I didn't. One was a barbeque at the Sublette Center which Ruth invited us to attend. We did...and it was fun. Tharon and Bob Thompson joined our table which included Ruth, Keith, Donna Dickson, Jackie Manning, Sharon Davis and us. I did wish I'd taken my camera. Later in the evening, Brian and Krishna had us out to a barbeque in their back yard. Troy, Kim and Heather Owen were there. We had Alaskan fish that was sooooo good.
Last night we went to Kirsten's spring dance recitel. That was a hoot. I did take pictures but it was with Jennifer's camera. If she sends me some, I'll post them here. She was darling, and came a long way since Christmas!
