This and that!
We moved cows with Michael today. Kirsten was so cute on Brown Jug! Brown Jug takes good care of her.
The cows on the upper Green are being turned loose tomorrow. Our day riding job is over for this fall. Bob is shoeing horses for our fall elk hunt. We have two elk tags each...
Rod stopped by with my rifle that he had for the summer. He cut down the stock, and mounted a scope. I'm anxious to sight it in. He also cut down the stock on Bob's rifle, for him! Besides getting our guns, it was good to see Rod, and be caught up on all the wolf activity around.

And so does John...he takes care of Palmer. John does like to stop and eat, and that's a large concern for Palmer.

Artist Guild and Picnic
Saturday was Artist Guild at the Box R. To begin the day, I met Sally at Falers for coffe and tea, and a visit. We stayed too long..but it worked out. I bought $170.00 worth of groceries and brought them home in two bags...humm, something wrong with this picture.
Lynn Thomas picked me up...she already had Judi and Sandy. We stopped at Spike's homestead on Dumphry and I took this...one of several. Spike's homestead is showing it's age.
If you check out Lynn's blog...lynnslines.blogspot.com, she has many more pictures of our delightful day. But I thought this was cute. Also Jeanne went to great effort to make our luncheon special...salmon, curried chicken, salads..and dessert. The meeting went on forever, but the writings were really great.
After Lynn left me off, we loaded up and went to Willow Lake for supper with Jennifer, Michael, and kids, who are camping there for the weekend. They spent the day on a canoe on the lake.
The sun was setting as I took this of Michael and Bob.
Michael did the dishes..then backed the trailer up, so we could get turned around. It was a fun evening.

Done Haying!
Bob is raking with Ruby Butte in the background. Also you can see the mowers back there. We'd mow in the mornings and bale and stack in the afternoons. Michael did it all. Bob and I would trade days going out early and mowing. In the afternoons I baled, he raked and Michael stacked.
Michael running the stacker. It's the only thing that really broke down. It had us out of commission for quite a while.
This is yours truly baling. No one photographed me so I took this using the mirror in the tractor showing me and the baler. Looking through the window the hay doesn't look that whippie, but it was pretty good. It also shows my new camera! Thanx Betty...I do love it!
We finished about one this afternoon. We took the machinery in...and ate lunch. We brought the horses in to get new shoes. We are doing some riding for the association, and getting ready for hunting season. Tomorrow I'm playing bridge at Betty Kerback's.

Kvenild Memorial
Bill Kvenild, Spencer Reynolds, Bob Klaren, Gina Feltner, JR Kvenild, Ruth Oliver, Wade Wilson. Now if that isn't a bunch to draw to! Johnny Kvenild died a week or so ago, and the memorial on Horse Creek was planned. Peggy died the fall of 2004, and they kept her ashes to be put with his at this time. A small ceremony took place, and then Spenc and Bill put the ashes overlooking Horse Creek. Johnny first came to this country and worked at the tie camp here. He and Peggy agreed they wanted their ashes to forever be in the Wyoming mountains at this spot. Afterwards, we had a picnic furnished by JR...and got in a lot of old time remembering. Spence made the remark it closed a circle. It did.
Spencer, aka Penny, Bob, Marg, Gina and Ruth. Those two women sure make me look big. Spence was complaining that Bob dwarfed him. Ahh, we all have our problems!
Spenc, Bill, Ruth and Bob. Ruth looked wonderful in her hat, but she had a small problem with the wind.

Back to the hayfield!
The old unused slide still sits in the middle of one of the meadows reminding us of older simpler times. The hawlks use it to spy on the mice we disturb.
And then there is this vintage baler. It is belt driven, set next to a stack of loose hay, and the hay is forked into the baler. Some one hand ties the bales from each side of the baler. We believe this was brought into the country the winter of 1949 when hay was sold and needed to be hauled to other parts of the country during that bad storm.
I've been mowing and baling both. The John Deere pulling the baler is state of the art. Push button gears...air conditioning...etc. It's far different from the above.
We'd been out of the hayfield for almost a week due to a break down of the stack liner, and then rain. After baling up what had been in the field all these days, we all went on a picnic up to Little Half Moon Lake.
The kids got in some fishing before supper of hotdogs and smores!
