Looking down at the haystack

Sunday was cold, but not as cold as yesterday. Nice at the feedground. Dino planned to go feed, and I was going to take the day off. He called in the a.m. and reported he had to work. O.k....I went. We fed 110 bales, many of which Bob had to chop appart. He shoveled a lot of snow off the stack too. We watched Olympics in the p.m. . Scotty came after the “cousins”. He didn’t do well at the hill climb. His arm bothered him a lot. Brent qualified in 3 events, but didn’t make the first 5 in any.

February 20th. Monday. It was -30 heading to the feedground this morning. Brrr, for sure. Again my machine did well, however. We watched more Olympics. Bob went to the airport to plow snow. Looking at the AZ weather that Sally and Pete are "dealing with"...and Geo and Karen...they are in heaven, and don't know it. Well, the gorgeous sparkling snow covered hills and mountains are pretty spectacular too! I wouldn't change places.

-31

-31 this a.m. We waited until about ten to leave for the feedground. My machine started easily...and ran well after we let it warm up some. It was gorgeous up there..and much warmer than down by the truck. We got home about three. It’s snowing lightly and nearly zero out.

Cow elk body piercing?

Well, at least she lived! I shouldn't be so snide, I guess.

It was cold at the feedground today...but nicer than yesterday when Jim and his friend Kent took my place.

Meanwhile, our bridge group had a good time...Erma winning high and Mary Pat winning 2nd high. Betty K. won backside!

Cheenys brought the "cousins" by on their way to Elko for a hill climb. They were facing dreadful roads. Scotty has a broken arm from a snowmachine wreck Sunday. He's wearing a brace which isn't slowing him down much.

Feb thaw!

It is gorgeous...and Bob tells me we are under a winter storm watch. Storm blast headed our way. We can hope. We need more snow! This is a picture of our team, and the snow they are on compared to where the hay has been. It also translates to lifting heavy bales way up to get the ground layer onto the sled.

Our elk are finally settled after their trama on Sunday. They did act normal today.

Got neat pics from Betty on their snowmobile trip to the Union Pass area, and our cabin up there.

Also, I found pictures of Thad in his championship game online..Nanc told me how to find them...

I visited Verla Sommers yesterday. Reminds me of twenty one years ago about now.

Typical February in Wyoming.

February 11th. Saturday. It was -24 where I started the snowmachine. It started good, but didn’t want to move. It was gorgeous up at the feedground. Jerod Rogerson went up with us. He's in charge of the darting program that they'll tranqualize some of our cow elk, and place radio transmitters in them. There was a dead cow elk on our feedground that appeared to be a wolf kill. This afternoon we watched the Olympics.

February 12th. Sunday. Dino came and went to the feedground with Bob and I stayed home to clean house for my upcoming bridge party. The Game and Fish went up to dart some of our cow elk. Nothing went well. The elk wouldn’t follow the sled while feeding. Finally after the 3rd load, they darted 9 head. Three of the nine died. Bob feels they left them tranquilized too long and they bloated. They pulled them out behind their snowmachines to be necropsied at the office. All nine were pregnant. Dino stayed for lunch. We watched Olympics after lunch. Thad is playing in the state championship game for hockey this afternoon. I'm expecting great pictures soon. Right Nanc? :)

Another gorgeous day!

We vaccinated 83 elk calves today. It went well. It's warm out today, and melting again. Not much else going on.

Happy Birthday !

Thad's ten. Wow. These kids are growing up. Does that mean I'm growing old? Naaa!

Yesterday was quite a day. Began with me rear-ending Bob on the snowmachine. He was motioning for me to stop...I thought he was pointing out something to the east, and I was looking over there...and really smacked him. Threw him off...threw me off, bend a ski on my machine, and crumpled my bumper and hood.

Then on the stack, he nearly broke a leg...with a heavy bale that got away from him. He stepped back, hit a hole...and it was bad. However, he's tough, and lived through it. The last load, Wes tore up some of his harness...and that was nearly a disaster. So yesterday didn't go well at the feedground.

We spent the afternoon at the dentist. My teeth are in good shape..he has some work to be done.

Another gorgeous day.

Wow, what a day. It was snowing and foggy heading to the feedground. At least today I didn’t run off our snowtrail. After we got there, it lightened up and was gorgeous. I took my camera and took many pictures. After we were finished feeding, we broke into the east side of the east stack. Bob had to shovel roughly 3 1/2 feet out of the east gate. We had no idea how deep that snow was. Wes went down trying to buck through the snow. Bob got them unhooked and drove them out without the sled. Then he led them back, and I followed to help hook them up. This time they made it. A side note, a little cotton tail sat out and watched the whole show.

I went to the bank, store and p.o. after lunch. Bob plowed snow.

Happy Birthday Jane!

February 2nd. Ground hogs day. Jane’s 45th birthday. Wow...can’t believe that. Betty and Brent and Scott brought the dogs by about seven this a.m. They are going to Bear Lake to hill climb. Hope all goes well for them, including the roads getting there. It’s snowing and foggy this morning. I had an awful time seeing as we snowmachined into the feedground. We fed 104 bales again. I found a small spike horn near the front runner of the sled. Gary showed up just as we were unhooking the team with a tank of propane for us. I took Del in to have her staples removed. Got a new cell phone as I lost mine last Saturday a little fact I didn’t realize until last night. I suspect it’s in Jackson. Bob’s plowing snow again.

Frosty morning in Wyo

O.k...I deleted one photo, and added others. I spent Saturday in Jackson with Eberhardts and the Cheyenne Capitols' hockey team. This photo was taken after the game. The other is of my star player # 30!

Enjoyed lunch with Cheeneys and Eberhardts at the Stockmans today. I left Bob and Dino on their own when they came down from the feedground. Actually, I arrived home about the time they did..so it worked out really well. Sort of had my cake and ate it too!
